This
textbook is designed to be used as a supplemental book in a
database theory course where more coverage of SQL topics is needed.
It is also well suited for a course covering just SQL with a few
design concepts during a typical 15-week semester. To support this
use a small appendix covering the principles of database design is
included. No prior knowledge of SQL is assumed.
Comparisons are shown between Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server,
Microsoft Access, and MySQL. The presentation sticks as close to
ANSI-SQL as possible. This is done because ANSI-SQL is the most
portable. When necessary the database specific code is used to
accomplish common tasks.
