Mapping Our World Using GIS: Our World GIS Education, Level 2

Back

Mapping Our World Using GIS helps students investigate geographic information systems (GIS) through seven step-by-step modules that require critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The lessons use the latest ArcGIS® Desktop software and also align with national teaching standards for geography, science, and technology in introducing and building skills in geographic inquiry, spatial thinking, and GIS technology. Mapping Our World Using GIS is an instructor resource text recommended for grades 6 and upwards.

A follow-up to Mapping Our World: GIS Lessons for Educators, this second volume in the Our World GIS Education series contains updated materials and lessons that combine geography, data collection, mapping, and critical analysis to guide educators and students through course content in new ways. Students acquire and continue building broad-based problem-solving skills as the lessons progress. Ideal for novice and seasoned GIS users alike, Mapping Our World Using GIS contains GIS lesson plans, step-by-step instructions, illustrations, important questions and answers, data, a teacher resource CD, and a one-year trial license for ArcGIS software for the Microsoft® Windows® operating system, complete with a supporting Web site.

Over the past several years, Anita has trained thousands of teachers in GIS fundamentals and taught them how to use GIS in their classrooms. Lyn Malone, a former teacher and cartographer, works as an educational consultant specializing in classroom applications of geospatial technologies. Lyn was Rhode Island’s Social Studies Teacher of the Year in 1995 and has received awards from the National Council for Geographic Education, the National Geographic Society Education Foundation, American Forests, and ESRI for her innovative curriculum development and implementation. Christine L. Voigt is an award-winning educator and freelance curriculum writer from Dallas, Texas.
